Next Event: December 27, 2026
The Yawa-Yawa Festival, celebrated on December 28 in Ibajay, Aklan, commemorates Niños Inosentes Day (Holy Innocents' Day). Men dress up in scary masks made of coconut leaves, called "Yawa-Yawa masks," resembling sinister creatures or King Herod's soldiers. They roam the streets to scare children, encouraging good behavior, and collect money and food from homes in a Halloween-esque celebration of this biblical event.
