Celebrated during the first week of February, the Salakayan Festival in Miag-ao, Iloilo, commemorates the town's successful defense against Moro raiders on May 7, 1754. The festival's name originates from the Hiligaynon word for attack. Today, locals honor this historic victory through a week of festivities, including a dramatic street dance reenactment of the battle, food and trade fairs, and a parade featuring towering papier-mâché figures known as Higantes.
